Whole Lot of Shaking Going On
The recent events involving the health of my mother have
shaken me emotionally. It is a path in life that if we had it our way we would have
never taken. Life, unfortunately, no matter how well planned-out and lived
always delivers unexpected facts that are unavoidable. What is most helpful is
digging deep for perspective through God’s true and trustworthy Word. The Word
always puts life into its proper light.
The book of Hebrew says, "I will shake not only the earth but
the heavens also. This means that all of creation will be shaken and removed,
so that only unshakable things will remain." — Heb. 12:26-27 NLT
We hold in our possession right now many things which can be
shaken. When we as Christ-followers set a high value on those things it can
leave us in unpleasant situations because we’ve built hope in stuff that is
totally unstable, like the rolling clouds of a thunderstorm. Solomon says to
everything there is a season or, to put it another way, change will come to all
things.
Nevertheless, we have certain "unshakable things,"
that we should focus on because when there is a whole lot of shaking going on
in your life you can develop real comfort from the things that cannot be shaken
which remain intact. Whatever your losses have been, or may be, your salvation
is secure. It is at the foot of the cross of Jesus trusting only in the
priceless value of His precious blood that lifts you above the tremors of empty
bank accounts, lost relationships, failure and health. They cannot interfere or
touch your salvation. God is your Father and you are His child. No change in
your circumstances can ever steal that from you. Even if you are stripped bare
of everything end up in abject poverty and hit rock bottom, remember, Jesus is
your rock at the bottom. Jesus tells us in John 14:27 not to “be troubled or afraid” because he has
given us the gift of peace and the world can’t take that peace away.
You have another unshakable blessing, namely, the love of
Jesus Christ. In His affectionate nature we find strength and comfort—nothing
can touch that. You could go through life without the slightest hiccup and wake
up the next morning to discover that every tissue in your body is infested with
disease. It will not defeat the one who can sing, “Jesus is all the world to
me.”
We are immune from losing the best and richest aspects of
our lives. Whatever troubles come let us
show that we are not disheartened by what has happen to us because this poor
brief situation will pass. Our citizenship is in Christ’s Kingdom, our hope is
above the sky and as calm as the lake on an early summer's morning. Everything
you can see, taste, touch, and smell may be a wreck remember it is earthborn, even
so rejoice in the God of your salvation when there is a whole lot of shaking
going on.
