SECURITY ASSURED

In today’s every threatening environment, security is becoming important on a daily basis. Let me ask you. Where does your security lie? I assure you that there is nothing in this world that is secure. Health, relationships, money, it can all dwindle away quickly. I’m sure you can relate a story or two about someone close to you who has felt the rug of security pulled out from underneath them. Maybe that someone is you.

Our existence on this planet is defined by insecurity. That will never change. But God wants to assure you that you’re secure in him because the only trustworthy security is in your connection with Jesus Christ. There is only one thing in life that is certain—God loves you. And that’s all you need. Someone once said, “I didn’t realize that God was all I needed until I came to the place that he was all I had.”

You can have security assured only by God’s love. “Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have God’s Son does not have life. I have written this to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know you have eternal life.” (1John 5:13)

You don’t have to wait until your world falls apart to find this out. Many Christians torment themselves over this question, “Did I really believe? Did I really mean it? Was I really, really, really sincere?” I ask you, is there a difference between the second and third “really” as if it is the difference between heaven and hell? What takes place in this line of questioning is you turn your security of salvation into something you earn by your own goodness. When this happens you base your security in yourself not in God alone and this misses the whole point of eternal security, because you’re only one bad day away from losing your security altogether.

The apostle John says that you can know you have eternal life because of all the things he has written about—God love you—Jesus died for you—your sins are forgiven. You are his child and he is your Father. It is in the love your Father has for you that you find security. God wants to assure you that you’re secure in him.
