VACANCY MET FAITH

Have you ever been in need of a miracle? Do you need your health restored or your finances restored or your family restored or your business restored or your hope restored? This means that you need God to move in your life and do things that you cannot do for yourself. The important thing to know is this is where the life of faith begins.

Where your resources end is where your faith can begin. When you run out of options it creates a helplessness or vacancy in your life. This is a clear call to start living in faith. This loss of resources is seen in the life of two men in Matthew chapter nine. The problem in these men's lives was very obvious—they were blind. They could not see. This was not a problem they could solve for themselves. They were in need of a miracle from God. It was at the point of their need that they had the opportunity to start living in faith.

Two blind men followed along behind him [Jesus], shouting, "Son of David, have mercy on us!"  They went right into the house where he was staying, and Jesus asked them, "Do you believe I can make you see?" "Yes, Lord," they told him, "we do."  Then he touched their eyes and said, "Because of your faith, it will happen."  (Matthew 9:27-29)

It's the same for you when you have a vacancy in your life. You have a need that isn't being met. You sense a vacancy in the area of your personal relationships. You want to share your life with someone, and that person hasn't showed up yet. Or, you already have a spouse, and you sense a vacancy in your marriage. The relationship has grown cold and you've lost your ability to communicate and you're at your wit's end. If you could solve this problem on your own you would have done it long ago, but you're helpless to do anything about it. You need God to intervene. It could be a vacancy in your financial situation, or your job situation. You've done everything you can do — but it's just not enough. You need God's help.

It is at this point of helplessness that you have the opportunity to start living by faith. In fact, I would go so far as to say that God allows these vacancies to occur in our lives so that we can learn to trust him. When we learn to trust him, his power is demonstrated in our lives.

Do you feel helpless about anything? Is something missing in your life? Do you have a vacancy that you can't fill by your own strength? Here's what I encourage you to do. It's a little risky, but it's worth it. Start expecting God to do something about it. Remind yourself that God is in control, that he loves you and he wants to provide for you. He hasn't forgotten you. He's waiting for you to turn to him, to trust him, to put your faith in his power. This vacancy in your life, this sense of helplessness, is a call to put your faith in action.
