ZERO HERO
When things get bad, God looks for a person to use. God often uses the most unlikely person. You’re thinking, "God could never use
me." Don't bet on it! God often uses the most unlikely people.
Gideon was such a person. He was a Nobody, somewhat of a coward, down in a
winepress threshing wheat hiding it from terrorist — the Midianites.
Psychologists today would say that Gideon had an inferiority complex. He and
his family lived in a cave due to these terrorist. They had lost hope. They
felt helpless and were driven to despair. But, “The angel of the Lord appeared
to him and said, “Mighty hero, the Lord is with you!” (Judges 6:12) Talk about
irony! Gideon is a guy that’s afraid of his own shadow. Yet, he is told that
God is with him and he is a “Mighty hero.” Gideon, at first, wasn’t buying what
God was selling. God knew Gideon’s potential before Gideon knew it.
God will always jumpstart your life with a word of encouragement. God
sees your potential and wants you to see it. When God starts to work in your
life he wants you to get a new view of you. He wants you to get a glimpse of
your potential.
God was not looking at what Gideon was—he was looking at his potential.
God affirmed Gideon—“Mighty Hero.” Even
with this affirmation Gideon’s reply in verse 13 was filled with insecurity. He
used, “but”, “if”, “why”, “where” to make excuses to support his doubt. Then
told the Lord, “How can I rescue Israel?...I am the least in my entire family!”
(Judges 6:15)
Just like Gideon, you can miss God’s plan for your life because you
just can’t see yourself as God’s champion. You can’t see yourself as a dynamic
Christ-follower. You can’t see yourself as being an influential person
spiritually. Do you think God could use you the way he used Gideon? “Who me?”
“No?” God will encourage you to know that you can be more than you are right
now. You underestimate your potential and limit God by saying, “Lord, I can’t
do it!” God will respond to you as he did with Gideon, “Go with the strength
you have…I am sending you!...I will be with you.”
When you’re doing God’s will you cannot be a failure. When God wants to
change you from a coward into a champion he will affirm that you can do it and
you can change. You can be something you never thought you could be before.
Simply go with the Lord with what you have and he will take you from zero to
hero. Don’t let anything hold you back from trusting him with your potential.
“Mighty hero, the Lord is with you!”
